The original Zorba's House is located above the village of Stoupa in an area called Prastova. Prastova offers an enchanted quietness, secluded from the hustle but the next village - Stoupa - is not even a mile away. To the sandy beach Kalogria, where the famous Sirtaki dance by Alexis has taken place, it is just a stone's throw away (by car 2, walk 15 minutes). The original Zorba's House has a size of approximately 160 square meters (5 rooms) and is for 4 to 6 people ideal. It forms a closed ensemble with a courtyard, terrace and balcony with stunning views of the sea, which lies approximately 300m west.

Details about the house
The kitchen upstairs is connected directly to the terrace. There is a mobile outdoor grill for the patio. Open Air barbecue with sea views! Under the courtyard is an old cistern. Behind the house are the mountains and a small cypress grove, surrounded by bizarre rock formations. Towards the sea side, you look at a group of huge eucalyptus trees. Wonderfully romantic! In the garden there is a fantastic rock shower, located between tall trees and agave cactus plants, also with sea view! Pure nature! The protected location of the house means that it remains there quiet, sheltered, shaded and cooler in summer. Together with the interesting atmosphere of the old stone house from 1891, the stories around the original Zorba-house and the stylish ambiance of the whole house it offers almost ideal conditions for an exceptional and relaxing holiday in Greece. Specialties
The house stands in front of a cypress grove without directly visible neighboring houses. Westwards sea view, very quiet and unique. It has a very good equipped kitchen which is connected directly to the terrace. From the terrace and the balcony you can have a spectacular sea view and enjoy the nature views. All rooms are equipped with high quality windows and doors. Mosquito-swinging doors and inserts included. The house is ideal for wedding couples (honeymoon!). Dream weeks in protected atmosphere!

Nearer and further surroundings
In the vicinity of the house there are many different types of beaches and small coves. The nearest sandy beach Kalogria is particularly suitable for children. Very impressive and beautiful coastal landscape, the mountains are called Taygetos (highest peak: 2407m). One village is more beautiful than the other! There are in Stoupa, as well as in neighboring villages plenty of shopping possibilities and several ATM´s. The special micro climate brings a large variety of plants (eg, 2 species of wild cyclamen) and animals (nature reserve Gialova Lagoon). Enjoy bathing, hiking, boating (stalactite caves Dyrou) or explore attractions (ex. Sparta Mystras, ancient Messene, Olympia, Epidaurus, Nauplion, Gytheion, Monemvathia etc.).

History
As Cretan native the national poet Nikos Kazantzakis operated from 1917 to 1918 in the small area Prastova a lignite mine. In the mine tunnel, in the immediate vicinity of the house, which can still be visited from outside today, was then brought to light brown coal. These are the original locations of the story of Alexis Zorbas. The 'True Zorbas-Story' has taken place in this house and became famous in the novel Zorba the Greek by Nikos Kazantzakis published in 1946. In 1964 the novel was filmed by Michalis Cacoyannis, not least because of the brilliant acting performance by Anthony Quinn and the famous music by Mikis Theodorakis, it became one of the world's biggest successes of all time. The house on 24 May 2011 had its 120th anniversary.
